The UK can quite rightly claim to have cultivated one of the world's most exciting Ford communities, one built upon tales of Escort Mexicos screaming through murky forests, Lotus Cortinas cocking a wheel while battling ungodly powerful US muscle cars – and billowing burnouts on Southend Sea Front! Castle Combe has long celebrated the UK's longstanding Ford obsession, though this year it's set to step up a gear thanks to the sophomore edition of Pure Ford on 12th May, with an undoubted highlight being an expanded competitive element – Ultimate Concours.
Building on the solid foundations of the 2017 event, Pure Ford's Ultimate Concours will be organised and judged by Kevin Flatman, very much part of the furniture as far as the UK's concours Ford scene thanks to his 30 year association with the marque, not to mention time served in the judging capacity. Kevin was involved in last year's show but is set to step up his association in 2018, and he'll be organising the attendance of 20 of the country's cleanest Dagenham icons in readiness for Pure Ford.
Ultimate Concours will be split into two different categories, plus a further two sub-divisions catering for standard and modified models. The opening category is strictly for Mk1 and Mk2 Escort, the rear-wheel drive icons which have become firmly lodged at the very heart of British petrolhead culture – and for a very good reason, they're among the most entertaining cars ever to wear the 'blue oval!' As stated above, there will be awards for both standard and modified examples.
Pure Ford will also cater to owners of more modern Fords with a separate Ultimate Concours competition, one designed for Mk3 Escorts onwards, right up to the present day. Again, owners of standard and tuned examples will be free to compete, meaning the mouthwatering prospect of big power Escort Cosworths rubbing wings with pristine Escort Ghias, and everything in between.
Ultimate Concours will have a key position within Pure Ford, centrally located within the very heart of the show. This, combined with the Ultimate Trophy on offer for the outstanding overall winner, means that the competition is likely to be fierce.
Competitive concours element aside, Pure Ford looks set to once again be one of the most exciting events on the Ford community's bulging calendar, with plenty of 'blue oval' entertainment on offer both on and off the track. The iconic Wiltshire circuit will once again reverberate to the bark of BDAs, the snarl of crossflows and the bellow of YBs, making Pure Ford a must-attend show for anyone with Ford in their veins!
